...observations made in 2006
2006 was a big year for me. It was the year I moved from Halifax Nova Scotia back to British Columbia. Victoria, was the destination this time. I bought my first car (a 2000 Hyundai Accent affectionately named 'booger') to make the trip with my then partner and our new puppy. Seems like a lot of 'BIGS' in the year, the most devastating of which was that it was the year I 'sold out and went digital'. With the help of a newly opened flood of credit to otherwise risky bets like me, I found myself at a major retailer being told I had $2500 at my disposal... I walked up to the photo department and said "I want the digital equivalent of my K1000" and within 1/2 an hour I walked out with a Canon Rebel XT (X-Tra Trout, baby, and don't you forget it!). My ego took a bit of a beating those first few months and eventually I stopped apologizing to my artistic pride with the promise that I'd still shoot with the K1000 frequently. There's a bit of a learning curve in this section. There are (still) far too many bells and whistles that I'd like to remove from basic digital SLRs that were obstacles to me until I learned to set the functions to interfere as little as possible with what I was doing. Anyway. 2006: the year KT soled out and went digital.
